INSTAGRAM ALGORITHM 2018 - Beat The Algorithm And Gain Instagram Followers

What is up guys?

Welcome back to the blog!

As you guys may know, Instagram launched a new algorithm a couple of months ago, and it's been tweaking it ever since. But, it released what the algorithm is all about, and how you can use it to get more followers and more visibility for your page. So let's talk about it. So the new algorithm actually looks at three different things. The first thing is timeliness. The second is interests, and the third is relationships. Let's break it down.

Timeliness- In the past, it didn't really matter when you posted, because your posts would only be shown to your audience based on their engagement with your page, and how interested they were in your content. Not anymore, guys. Now, when you post actually matters. So it's really, really important that every time you post, you get into your insights, go back to the audience tab, and see when the majority of your audience is active.

Let's say you're located in California, and the majority of your audience is actually active on the app at 9:00 a.m. But you post at noon everyday. You're not going to get as much engagement or visibility as you possibly could. So instead, if you go to your insights and you see that your audience is active at 9:00 a.m., make sure to post at 9:00 a.m. This could differ for every single day, so it's important to check a day before when you're going to be posting for the following day so that you ensure that you get the maximum amount of likes and comments, and visibility for your page.

Interest- Instagram is a search engine, guys, and it is trying to figure out which category you fall into but it's also interested in which categories you want to look at. For example, if you guys look at the explore page, you'll see that now it has categories at the very top. It's for you, fitness, food, art, etc. Instagram is trying to understand what you're interested in. The reason they do that is so that they can provide you better suggested content, but also that they can provide you with better ads that are tailored to your niche and to your market. So, how did they determine this interest? By the things that you engage with.

So if you're liking and commenting, and using hashtags that are tied into the fitness industry, Instagram's algorithm is assuming that you're interested in that industry and that you're also part of that industry so it's going to be showing you more suggest posts. It's also going to tailor your explore feed to that, and it's going to make sure that your hashtags that you're using actually pop up when it comes to that specific niche.

Relationship- So no, the algorithm doesn't actually care if you're related to someone physically, like your brother or sister, but they want to know the strength of your relationship with that person online. How do they do that? By seeing how much you engage with that person's content. For example, if I post at 9:00 a.m. and immediately as I post one of my followers, Julie, likes my posts and she comments on it, and she saves it, and she shares it with her friends, and she tags her friends in it, and she always views my InstaStories, and she sends me a DM, the algorithm knows that our relationship is very, very strong.

So it's going to make sure that Julie always sees my posts, even if I posted at 9:00 a.m. and she only logged on to the app at 5:00 p.m., my post is going to be the first one on there. Do you guys realize just how insanely strong that is? If they always show my posts to Julie or to my other 200-something followers, then that means that those are 200 likes, 200 comments, and 200 impressions and reach that I get every time.

It's really, really important to foster this relationship with your existing audience, and ensure that they always engage and interact with your content as much as possible. How do we do that? By giving them a reason to interact and engage with us so that they can that relationship and show the algorithm that we have a really, really strong relationship. When I post captions, I always make sure to provide value in my captions, or education. At the very bottom, I ask a question so that people have a reason to comment on my post and share their opinion.

Another thing that I do is I always post on InstaStory. Everyday. Even if it's just a quick, "Hey guys, how are you doing? Happy Monday," it's important to post so that people can see you, so that you're always top of mind, and also so that they can make sure to interact with your content and reinforce that algorithm strength again.

Another way that you can do this is by engaging on their content. Go drop a like, drop a comment, show them some love. I promise you in return, they will come back to your page and do the same. So I hope that makes sense, and that the algorithm breakdown makes sense to you.
