Instagram Tip For Hashtags - ALWAYS appear on top!

Happy Tuesday beautiful people and welcome to The Instagram Guru Blog. Today I want to talk to you guys about a little tip on how you can increase your visibility on hashtags. Yes, I know, hashtags. If you guys are struggling with your Hashtag strategy make sure to check out my recent YouTube video where I break down my strategy and how I use hashtags to get maximum visibility. Today I'm going to share with you a little tip that I've noticed some people utilize, some don't, and some misuse it completely and it's really, really bad.

Okay, so what is the strategy that I'm talking about and how can you use it to get more visibility on hashtags? Before I break it down, let me explain to you how hashtags actually work. When you upload a post in the past what Instagram used to do, anytime you uploaded a post and you would use a hashtag, your posts would appear on the hashtag based on when you uploaded the post. Let's say I uploaded my post at 8:00 AM, but I only posted my hashtags at say 10:00 AM, my post would pop up with the 8:00 AM group that posted, and so even though I posted my hashtags at 10:00 AM it would still go back and only show up with the 8:00 AM group. Now, Instagram recently changed that and so now whenever you post the hashtags that is where you get posted in the hashtag group.

You could have posted your picture a week ago. If you use the hashtag, let's say #Instagram, your post is going to pop up at the top of the hashtag feed right now as if you just posted it. I think you guys can see where I'm going with this. If you're trying to get more visibility on specific hashtags, all you really have to do is repost your hashtags.

This is really great because all you have to do is post them in a comment, so let's say I uploaded my post right now, 11:00 AM, and I posted my hashtags along with it. I'm going to show up at the 11:00 AM hashtags for let's say, I don't know, #Instagram. 24 hours go by, 12 hours go by, whatever, and I'm like, hm, I want to get to the top of the Hashtag feed again. What do I do? Delete the comment with all the hashtags and just repost them. That means that I'm going to pop up on all of the hashtags for the current time.

Now this is great because you're essentially targeting a new group of people that hasn't seen your posts before or maybe they weren't active on the app at 11:00 AM when you posted, but they're active now at 5:00 PM. You guys can see how this hashtag strategy can be really beneficial. All you have to do is just repost the hashtags to keep showing up at the top of the feed. Now, there is a way to do this and there's a way to not do this. I'm going to start off with how you should do this. Obviously don't do this for all your posts, do it for one or two of your recent posts that you think you could provide value for or that you want to get more visibility on, or something along those lines.

Let's say I posted at 11:00 AM and I posted my hashtags along that time. I would wait until 5:00 PM or 6:00 PM, delete the hashtags, and then repost them. Okay? That's a great way to do that if you're trying to get more visibility for that specific post and you can do it for one or two of your posts.

Now, what you don't want to do is literally go through the last 10, 15 posts that you did, delete the hashtags and then repost them because then what's going to happen is you're going to pop up, all of your pictures are going to pop up on the hashtag and so we're going to see one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, however many pictures you do all belonging to you on that hashtag. You might think this is a great idea to get visibility, but it is not. People will get sick of seeing you and what they're going to do is one of two things.

Best case scenario, they're going to ignore your posts. They're gonna be like, oh my gosh, this person is just spamming this hashtag feed. I'm going to ignore them. Worst case scenario, you know those three little dots at the very top of your post on hashtags. People can report your post. If Instagram starts getting multiple reports for your posts and for your account, your account gets flagged. You can get flagged as spam, your visibility could decrease entirely. You could get shadow banned and not even show up on hashtags or your account could even get deleted. Instagram hates spam and that's why they've allowed their users to kind of report spam on multiple fronts. It could be a spam account, it could be spammed pictures on a hashtag, and so I would really, really be careful to be misusing this little method. One or two pictures a day is fine. Make sure that there's 12 hours at least between when you posted the hashtags the first time and when you're re-posting them the second time.

This will be a great way for you to get visibility. Okay, now, I do want to let you guys know there is a little caveat to this. If you post the hashtags at 11:00 AM and you get say, I don't know, 6,000 impressions from the hashtags that you posted at 11:00 AM and your post is doing really, really well and it's trending, or you just happen to be getting a lot of visibility which could lead to you popping up on people's explore feed. If you delete those hashtags all of that goes away with it, so deleting the hashtags and re-posting them essentially wipes the slate clean and you're still going to keep your impressions from hashtags. That's not going to change, but if you were trending, if your post was doing well, if it popped up on the explore feed as a result of the hashtags that you used initially, that's all gone.

Clean slate guys, you're starting over. The only reason I would use this is if your post is not getting a lot of visibility from hashtags or you think you want to test out whether your target audience is using that hashtag at a later time, then I would delete the hashtags and repost them. I personally don't use this technique simply because my hashtag strategy is so on fleek that I always trend on my hashtags and if I delete the hashtags and repost them, I'm not going to be trending again. Essentially, I'm going to be wiping all that hard work just gone, and so I don't use this strategy, but a lot of people as they're trying to grow do you use this strategy and it is very beneficial if you do it correctly.

I hope I addressed all your questions and as always, if you have any followup questions, make sure to drop a comment below.

As always, I appreciate you guys tuning in. Love seeing you here and I will see you all next week.
